Gaza, Aug 26 (IANS) As many as 7,000 Palestinians have been languishing in Israeli jails, a Palestinian government report has said.
According to the report issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Captives and Released Prisoners Affairs, the figure could increase in the backdrop of the daily campaigns of detentions by the Israeli forces against Palestinians, MENA reported Tuesday.
Of the 7,000 prisoners, 477 are serving life terms in Israeli jails, while 250 children are also among the prisoners, the report said.
Meanwhile Tuesday, Israel’s massive air and ground offensive in the Gaza Strip killed four Palestinians, including two electricity workers, medics said.
Gaza health ministry’s spokesperson Ashraf al-Qedra told reporters that an Israeli war jet bombed a car in Gaza city’s neighbourhood of al-Tuffah, killing two people in the vehicle.
Israel launched a ground and air offensive on the Gaza Strip July 8 dubbed Operation Protective Edge to rein in Gaza militants and stop rockets being fired into Israel. At least 2,108 Palestinians and 68 Israelis have been killed and over 10,000 wounded so far.
